2024 10th International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN) - Full and Short papers

View 2024 10th International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN) - Full and Short papers

The 10th annual International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN 2024) continued to push the boundaries of immersive learning, offering a hybrid experience that combined a virtual campus experience on the iLRN Virtual Campus (powered by ©FrameVR) and CVent meetings in June, followed by on-location events at the University of Glasgow and the University of St Andrews in Scotland, UK. This year’s conference brought together an international community of scholars, practitioners, and innovators to explore the theme of Tech4Good!

One hundred forty-four submissions were received for the Academic track. These include full and short papers, work-inprogress (WiP) poster papers, and submissions to the Doctoral Colloquium (DC). Every submission underwent a rigorous review by at least three members of the Program Committee to maintain high scientific and quality standards, including meta-reviews for each full and short paper. This thorough review process, which included a doubleanonymized review and plagiarism check, ensured the originality and quality of all contributions. After the peer-review process, all authors were given meaningful feedback on their submissions, further enhancing the quality of the conference.

The papers are arranged into ten main Immersive Learning areas of application (iLRN Branch Houses) and an additional three for our special track. iLRN Branch Houses work as umbrellas for each application area towards the systematization of research, design, and practice of immersive learning experiences. These are part of the Immersive Learning Knowledge Tree initiative, aiming to bridge their different epistemological landscapes to combine their efforts and develop the field of immersive learning research.

We are pleased to partner with Springer’s Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series to publish all accepted and registered best full and short papers in the Academic Stream presented at iLRN2024. Forty-three full and short papers (30 full papers and 13 short papers) were accepted in their initial submission category for the Springer proceedings (29.8% acceptance rate). Other contributions from the Academic Track, such as short papers, work-in-progress poster papers and doctoral colloquium papers were published with an individual DOI in the iLRN online proceedings.

We celebrated outstanding contributions through our Best Academic Paper awards. These awards, which include categories for student papers, recognize the highest quality of research presented at the conference. In addition, we implemented the Best Academic Reviewer award as a small way to recognize them for their service. Reviewing is a volunteer and time-intensive process, and we are grateful to all our reviewers for contributing to our community. In addition, we recognized the service our conference organizing committee provided by volunteering their time to make this event happen. We acknowledged their significant contribution via the Service awards.

We sincerely thank those involved who volunteered their time to make this such a great event and the attendees for joining us and sharing their excellent work with the iLRN community. Their dedication and hard work were instrumental in the success of iLRN2024.

If you are not already involved, we invite you to read these proceedings and join us in our subsequent events and ongoing initiatives.
