Abstract

This iLEAD contribution presents the 8m x 8m immersive simulation CAVE-environment at Mid Sweden University’s Risk and Crisis Research Centre (RCR Simulation Lab). RCR Simulation Lab is used to simulate different environments and situations through the projection of film, still photography, and virtual environments in 360 degrees. The room also features three-dimensional surround sound, a vibrating floor, scent and smoke machines, a range of temperature settings from 17-27 degrees Celsius, infrared heating, and theatre lighting. Originally conceived to provide complementary ways for studying crises—by creating and recreating crisis scenarios to study them—RCR Simulation Lab is now used for a range of purposes including experiential learning for social work students, early childhood educators, and behavioural science students.
