This workshop explores how the use of card decks can support higher education staff in creating meaningful learning experiences using mixed reality. While interest in mixed reality continues to grow in the higher education sector, unless specifically trained, staff can struggle to identify how and when to use mixed reality to enhance learning rather than detract from it. Building on the theories of meaningful learning, this workshop introduces a bespoke card deck grounded in active, relevant and student focused principles. Participants will use the cards to ideate and develop mixed reality learning experiences that respond to real student priorities including personal growth, real world contexts and engagement through authentic learning. Through a fast-paced card sprint, a design challenge and group pitch sessions, participants will generate prototypes using materials such as storyboards and UI mock-ups. Insights gathered from participants, designs and feedback will inform future iterations of the meaningful learning experiences card deck and guide future workshops with stakeholders. This session offers a creative, yet evidence informed approach to integrating mixed reality experiences into higher education in a meaningful way.
