Abstract

The Lehigh Gap Story is a virtual field trip game that presents the environmental and industrial history of the Lehigh Gap throughinteractive storytelling. Originally created as a desktop virtual reality (dVR) experience, it was later redesigned for headset-based VR (hVR) to provide a more immersive learning environment. This iLEAD paper presents the newly designed interface and interaction systems for the hVR experience. These included the subtitle follower, idle help panel, dynamic pause menu, emotional icon animations, as well as haptic feedback to improve guidance, accessibility, and engagement. A redesigned tutorial with interactive panels and 2D animations further supported intuitive learning of VR interactions. Together, these features demonstrate howimmersive storytelling in hVR can enhance environmental education through accessible, engaging, and emotionally resonant design.
