Erasmus+ Project: XR Compass as Evidence-Informed Guidance for the Design, Implementation and Evaluation of Immersive Learning Scenarios

The integration of Extended Reality (XR) technologies in education requires educators to develop XR-specific literacies that extend digital competences. In this extended abstract of the Erasmus+ Project the PAX Framework and its operationalization, the XR Compass, are presented as an evidence-based model that integrates pedagogical, didactical, ethical, and organizational dimensions for immersive learning scenarios [1, 2]. It is implemented as a web-based tool with modules aligned to the framework´s dimension, guiding questions, examples and a shared glossary [2]. The development follows a design-based research logic in the sense of McKenney & Reeves [5], integrating established reference frameworks and iterative feedback from student teachers, educators and researchers. This extended abstract presents the conceptual logic of the framework, its methodological development, and early qualitative findings from document analyses, expert workshops and initial field applications. The qualitative findings indicate that planning becomes more coherent, ethical and inclusive considerations are addressed earlier, and formative assessment is more systematically embedded. This contribution advances the discourse on XR-specific teacher competence and its integration by bridging theoretical frameworks with actionable practice-oriented guidance.
