We discuss the potential of Virtual Reality as a medium for distance learning, with a specific focus on remote access to a class. We also describe a proof of concept of a remote classroom participation system. Our proof of concept mirrors what happens in a classroom into a generative virtual reality, taking into account a potentially low bandwidth data connection. We discuss how ours, or similar VR systems, help to bridge the gap between the efficiency of online and face-to-face education, and how it makes remote classroom participation more accessible.
