This paper chronicles a study focused on students’ perceptions of the development of soft skills in an interdisciplinary, immersive learning class. The project outlined for the course was collaborative and interdisciplinary, involving development of an immersive and interactive, multimedia exhibition for a special collection of artifacts. Upon completion of the course, students were surveyed to explore how the course design affected perceptions of the development of hard and soft skills, including creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. Based on these findings, this paper also discusses how the structure of a specific learning experience affects students’ perceptions of authority, collaboration, individualism, groupthink, motivation, and balance of structure in informal learning.
